Tips For Choosing A Wedding Cake

How do you choose your wedding cake? Is your wedding a huge affair or a small intimate gathering of close family and friends? Do you have a budget which you must adhere to or are you a lucky bride with limitless funds? Is your wedding a modern or traditional affair? As there are so many things to consider, we hope the following tips will be of use to you.

The size and design of your wedding cake is entirely an individual choice but do think about how many guests will be attending the wedding breakfast and reception - it would be less than ideal if you were unable to offer each guest a piece of cake. Tradition has it that the top tier of the wedding cake is set aside to be used as the Christening cake for your first offspring so if you wish to follow this, an iced fruit cake is likely to last longer than other types.

Today it is possible to have a tiered wedding cake in various sizes and shapes. Heart shaped tiers in a relatively small size are very attractive for smaller gatherings, whereas the three or four tiered square shape wedding cake is ideal for larger celebrations.

Wedding cakes have traditionally been fruit cakes, decorated with icing with a model bride and groom perched at the top but if you prefer, sponge cakes are available in a similar range of designs. A popular choice is to have tiers of each type of cake. A nice touch when decorating the cake is to add swirls or iced flowers which tone with the bridesmaids` dresses and if you wish, a floral decoration can take pride of place at the top of the cake.

Cupcakes are an increasingly popular and interesting alternative to traditional wedding cakes and it is possible to buy special stands to hold them. There is room at the top of the stand for a complete cake. Prettily iced and presented in coloured foil cases, these stands of cupcakes look most attractive and also give you the opportunity to include a variety of flavoured cakes as well as some gluten free options in case some of your guests may have allergies.

If possible, buy your cake from someone recommended to you or whose work you have seen yourself at other weddings as the cake is an important part of your celebrations. Finally, following the happy event don't forget to arrange
flower delivery online for everyone whose assistance was so invaluable in arranging your special day.
